The State of the Birrarung (Yarra) and Its Parklands 2023 Report has been tabled in the Parliament of Victoria.

A considered analysis of the available science and the pressures and challenges ahead, this is Victoria’s five-yearly report card on the environmental condition of the Yarra River corridor.

Through the assessment of 36 indicators (11 community and 25 environmental health), this report tells the story of the health of the Birrarung (Yarra) and its parklands at a time of unprecedented population growth. It builds on the findings of the baseline State of the Yarra and Its Parklands 2018 Report and is prepared as part of a holistic approach to ‘keep the Birrarung alive’ created through the Yarra River Protection (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act 2017.

The report includes eight recommendations and the findings aim to inform the implementation of Burndap Birrarung burndap umarkoo: Yarra Strategic Plan 2022–32 and the Birrarung Council’s evaluation of its progress.
